San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis and wide receiver Michael Crabtree aren’t exactly best friends.
The two players had a heated discussion on the practice field that revolved around Crabtree’s suspect work ethic.
A lot of the players on the team love Crabtree’s talent but can’t stand how little effort he puts into training camp and practices.
Head coach Mike Singletary said Davis was trying to send a message to Crabtree but just went about it in the wrong way. ( Read More…)

San Francisco 49ers running back Glen Coffee has abruptly left the team and plans on retiring from the NFL.
Coffee, just 23-years old, was expected to win the backup running back job behind starter Frank Gore.
The team had very high hopes for Coffee and believed he had many of the same skills as Gore.
A lot of people are stunned by the news, but one reporter said he thinks Coffee has a higher calling. ( Read More…)

The San Francisco 49ers are closing in on a move from the Bay Area over to a new stadium in Santa Clara.
The organization has tried for years to get a new stadium built in San Francisco but to no avail.
Instead, they have been stuck playing in the incredibly outdated stadium affectionately known as Candlestick Park. ( Read More…)

San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis is not close to a contract extension with the team.
Davis is coming off of a career season in which he had the best numbers of any tight end in the NFL.
The tight end has made it clear there is no rush to getting a new deal done and he is not worried.
That sounds like a player who is supremely confident he can put up similar, if not better, numbers this upcoming season.
Head coach Mike Singletary loves Davis’ work ethic and his blocking skills for the running game.

The San Francisco 49ers traded veteran wide receiver Isaac Bruce to the St. Louis Rams so that he could retire with the team.
The trade did not include an exchange of players or draft picks, which gives a good idea of what is about to go down.
Bruce’s best seasons came in St. Louis where he was one of the stars of the “Greatest Show on Turf.”
He helped the Rams reach two Super Bowls in the early part of the decade, winning one of them.
The wide receiver holds franchise records for receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns.

The San Francisco 49ers have opened up contract talks with budding star Vernon Davis.
The 49ers have already locked up star linebacker Patrick Willis, allowing them to turn their attention to other players.
After a breakout 2009 season, the 49ers are willing to discuss a big extension for their tight end.
Davis is looking to get around a five-year contract worth $40 million, with $25 million guaranteed.
The 49ers might balk at giving him that much money, especially putting up just one good season.

The San Francisco 49ers have given linebacker Patrick Willis a five-year contract extension worth $50 million.
The young linebacker is heading into his fourth season and is already one of the best at his position.
He has made over 150 tackles in each of his first three seasons, as well as be elected to three Pro Bowls.
Head coach Mike Singletary knows all about the linebacker position and it’s importance on the defensive side of the ball.
Willis was obviously thrilled about the new deal, saying it shows just how much the 49ers want him in San Francisco.

The San Francisco 49ers added a pair of offensive lineman in Anthony Davis and Mike Iupati in the first round of the NFL Draft.
Davis and Iupati will likely earn starting spots on the offensive line from the first snap of training camp.
Out of Rutgers, Davis came in as possibly one of the top tackles in the draft, but weight and character concerns hurt his stock.
You better believe that head coach Mike Singletary is going to go all old school on Davis and whip him into shape.
As for Iupati, he doesn’t have the upside of some of the top offensive lineman in the draft but will be a solid contributor for years to come.

The San Francisco 49ers have acquired wide receiver and kick returner Ted Ginn Jr. from the Miami Dolphins for a fifth-round draft pick.
Head coach Mike Singletary called Ginn personally to welcome him to his new home and seems excited about landing the former first-round pick.
Singletary is particularly excited about the speed that Ginn will bring to the team as well as an upside that he deemed to be off of the charts.
Ginn will certainly add more talent to the offensive receiving corps, which already includes budding stars Michael Crabtree and Vernon Davis.
This is a trade that seems to work out well for everybody. Miami gets a solid pick in a deep draft and San Francisco gets a talented wideout who is still trying to tap into his full potential.

The San Francisco 49ers have announced that Scot McCloughan is out as the general manager.
McCloughan was rumored to be dealing with personal issues and was taking a leave of absence.
Fans were beginning to get restless not knowing what was going on behind the scenes, and no one still really knows what happened.
It seems that there was a mutual parting of sorts between the sides and rumors that McCloughan wanted to go work for the Green Bay Packers.
The 49ers said that McCloughan initiated the breakup but that it had more to do with personal reasons than football.
